At Key Farms, we run Livestock Guardian Dogs with our goats in order to keep the coyotes (and any other predators in the area) in check. We prefer Great Pyrenees and the Great Pyrenees X Anatolian for their calm, friendly dispositions and also their ability to get the job done.
Our oldest LGD, Munchkin, a full-blooded, AKC registered Great Pyrenees (who just happened to be the runt of her litter) was born in September of 2010 on the farm. She came from outstanding working and show stock (including Mon Ami lines) and she has proved to be an invaluable asset on the farm, keeping predators at bay since she was old enough to know her job. (We were devastated to come home on June 30, 2015 and learn that our beautiful Munchie had been struck by lightning and killed. She is irreplaceable and will forever live in our hearts.)
Our second LGD, Chloe, a Great Pyrenees X Anatolian, was bred by Tim and Liz Young at Nature's Harmony Farm in Elberton, GA. She was born in January 2013, and she is phenomenal. She's a big, friendly dog, but knows her job without a shadow of a doubt. She's exactly what we want in an LGD. Click on the button below to see Chloe's page.
Our third LGD, Samson, also a Great Pyrenees X Anatolian, was bred by Jodi Cromer at Hope Hill Homestead in Ridge Spring, SC. He was born in December 2013 and is such a big puppy dog. Huge barely describes him, which is appropriate since he's named after Samson in the Bible, but he's a giant teddy bear. We adore him. He's doing a fantastic job guarding the goats, even though he's still learning. Click on the button below to see Samson's page.
Our 4th LGD, our big boy Judah! He's a stunner to say the least. Bred by Wells' Providence Farms in Silex, Missouri, he is exactly what we were looking for when looking to grow our pure Great Pyrenees line. His background is impeccable and he should grow up to be an absolutely wonderful stud for Key Farms. Click on the button below to see Judah's page.
And lastly, our baby Eve. She's another gorgeous, pure Pyrenees bought from Tina Wells at Wells' Providence Farms. Solid white in color, she is an absolute doll. We are waiting ever so patiently until the day she and Judah can give us a litter of beautiful babies. Click on the button below to see Evie's page.

What do you need?
LGD's are WORKING dogs and NEED time to LEARN their jobs. While they are still young, before they've learned their duties, LGD pups tend to be playful, like most pups. It make take up to 3 years for an LGD to become fully mature. Before then, it's still a possibility they may hurt or even kill small animals such as chickens, or even goat kids or lambs. Please do your homework first so you're not stuck with an animal you no longer want that could possibly end up in a shelter. Do you already have an LGD on your farm? If so, an 8 week old pup may be just what you need. If not, you may need to consider getting an older, experienced dog to come work for you. In the end, it's well worth it. |
